Busanga Plains Camp

Busanga Plains is a wetland area in the far northern region of Kafue National Park. During most of the year the Plains are flooded and make a perfect but inaccessible bird sanctuary. However, during the dry season (normally from July to October) the plains are accessible by four wheel drive and it makes every effort going there doing so very worthwhile. The vast open plains are ideal to spot wildlife and wildlife there is!

Ungulates to be found there include large groups of red lechwe, a semi-aquatic antelope, that are easy to see. Groups of the mighty roan antelope are present, as are huge herds of buffalo (up to 1000), groups of wildebeest, zebra and sometimes even eland. Lions are very abundant, not to mention cheetahs hunting for their prey in the open area or leopards roaming the tree lines bordering the plains.

For the coming dry seasons, Mukambi Safari Lodge will run its Plains Camp from Two Fig, a beautiful location in the middle of the plains. Because it is situated at the heart of the Busanga Plains, you can see big groups of Lechwe for the main boma. But also, because it is perenially wet, it has a big fig tree and a forest of palm trees. During the 4 short months that it is accessible, it ranks as one of Africa's most remote and most beautiful spots.

Our camp consists of 4 furnished safari tents (sleeping 2 each) complete with en suite bathrooms. The size of the camp means that you will be given the most personal service possible. And it goes without saying that our menu will match our service. Your stay on the plains will be memorable.

We offer package deals that will comprise 3 nights at Mukambi Safari Lodge, 3 nights in our camp on Busanga Plains and will end with another night at Mukambi Safari Lodge. This will make the most of your stay in Kafue National Park. And it will make it a perfect and comprehensive combination of the Real Africa experience from both the safari feeling on the plains and the comfort of Mukambi Safari Lodge.

Busanga Plains are located at about 150 km from Mukambi Safari Lodge. The drive up to our camp takes about 5 hours but it is through some of Africa's most varied game areas. It is one long game drive and an adventure in itself.
